ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONALS DAY

In 2018 Administrative Professionals Day will be celebrated in New Zealand on Wednesday 18 April.

Administrative Professionals Day (AP Day or APD) is celebrated by all groups around the country. Events range from breakfasts to after work cocktail functions and dinners. More often than not these events will include a relevant guest speaker or presentation; the National President’s speech is also delivered. Groups will often giveaway prizes donated by national and local sponsors. Many groups use this special day to present their annual group awards.

AP Day is always celebrated on the Wednesday of International Administrative Professionals Week (usually the last week of April). In New Zealand, the day occasionally needs to be celebrated a week earlier to avoid the clash with the ANZAC Day public holiday.

Members and non-members are encouraged to attend their local group’s APD event and bring with them their managers and colleagues.

The History of APD

Administrative Professionals Day (APD) is an internationally recognised day that was started in the United States in 1952 by Professional Secretaries International – now called the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), usually in the last week in April.  The event is celebrated by administrative professionals and their management over the week but the actual day of the celebration is focused on encouraging managers and employers giving their office administrators special recognition.
